Q. What is the Florida state code for child
safety regarding pools.
A.
When it comes to safety there are
precautions that you can take to ensure a safe pool
environment. Florida law requires certain
standards to be met when building your pool. This
includes a minimum of a (4) ft. high fence, screen or
barrier enclosure with self-closing, self-latching,
lockable gates. All access gates must have a
self-latching device and be equipped to accommodate a
locking device. Unscreened windows leading to the
pool area must have a latching device at least (56)
inches above the floor. All doors, including
sliding doors, leading to the pool area must have a
self-latching device. Hinged doors must be
self-closing. All doors with direct access to the
pool may be equipped with an alarm device that produces
an audible warning when opened.
